Day 2, Eastern Cup Openers Results
18 Dec 2011 @19:18
Day 2 opened clear and cold, with over 400 racers competing on the 1.5k loop. The cold was welcome however, as it allowed our snowmaking team to make two additional mounds of fresh snow to augment the existing coverage.
Sophie Caldwell picked up right where she left off on Saturday, posting an 11 second win over Craftsbury Green Racing Project's own Maria Stuber who herself bested UNH's Elizabeth Guiney by 4 seconds.
After Saturday's double duplicate podium, the men's field was ready to shake up the results - and change it did, as none of Saturday's top three appeared on Sunday's podium. The GRP's Bryan Cook led a Craftsbury podium sweep, with teammates Dylan McGuffin and Nils Koons completing the all green victory party.
Check out NENSA for full results, and we've posted more pictures from Kris Dobie in our Flickr stream. Thanks to all who made it out for a fun weekend in the NEK. We're honored to host you, and hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

Day 1, Eastern Cup Openers Results
17 Dec 2011 @19:43
Day 1 of the TD Bank Eastern Cup Openers is in the books. We hosted over 300 racers today, on our 1.5k loop. We even got a bit of snow this morning to make things look more wintry (and make coach lives harder!).
The day started especially well for Corey Stock of CSU who posted a 6.5s win (in one k!) over the Green Racing Project's Clare Egan, with Dartmouth's Sophie Caldwell. Egan and Caldwell repeated their podium in the afternoon's prologue, with Sophie taking the win over another Green Racing Project skier - Maria Stuber. Egan claimed the last step of the podium for a fine start to the NENSA EC season.
The men's podium was a perfect duplicate between the two races: Craftsbury's GRP skier Tim Reynolds on the top step, teammate Patrick O'Brien close at hand in second, UVM skier Alex Howe in third both races. Check out NENSA for full results, and we've posted more pictures from Kris Dobie in our Flickr stream. Keep watching our website for a new start list and other announcements later tonight.

And check out our on-site facilities map.
EC Openers: Friday Updates (12:01)
16 Dec 2011 @12:11
Friday course availability - We will be opening part of the course at noon. The only access will be from the Tamarack parking lot, via a carpet strip. Please ski downhill to the lower field, bearing right, where you'll then pick up the course climbing up chip hill. Keep your eyes open - there will be workers and machinery at various points around the course. Classic track will be set and available. Traffic is counter clockwise on the loop. Signage should be in place to make this easy to follow.
Wax Testing - No wax testing during the competitions. A white board will be posted, listing testing times on race day.
Spectators - All spectators are asked to cross at designated areas to minimize dirt being tracked onto the course.
Warmup - With limited terrain for skiing alternate methods of warm up should be planned for (i.e. bring running shoes).
Maps - are up! Check 'em here.
Weather report - Weather Underground is presently NOT communicating with our weather station, due to the power down this morning as part of the power outage. For current data in the interim, check this link.
...and one item that was posted yesterday on the VTCM page from NENSA, but is worth reiterating here:
Racing Saturday afternoon only - There have been questions about whether you have to race the Saturday morning sprint qualifier in order to be able to race in the afternoon. You do NOT have to race in the morning to do the afternoon race, however, skiers that race the qualifier will be seeded off of their morning results and all others will be seeded behind this group.
Keep watching the website for more details as the day progresses!
EC Openers: Wednesday Status
14 Dec 2011 @17:37
At this point in time, we are relying almost exclusively on manmade snow for our open terrain. The snowmaking plan is presently focused on creating one quality race loop. This loop currently sports a foot of snow depth for around a kilometer. We hope to extend it to its full race course length this afternoon - just under 1.5k.
We intend to race both of Saturday's events on one course of the same distance, for both men and women's classes (approx. 1.4k for the morning's sprint qualifier and ~3k for afternoon prologue). This decision mandates the following changes:
Start Order: Having all classes racing the same distance will enable J2 girls and boys to be seeded in with the open women and men, and therefore able to earn NRL and FIS points if they are appropriately licensed. This has changed the start order slightly. The start order for both Saturday races will be: J2 girls/open/masters women, followed by J2 boys/open/masters men.
Start Interval Reduction (Saturday morning ONLY): In addition to the start order shift, we have shortened the start intervals for the Saturday morning sprint qualifier to 15 seconds for all classes. The Saturday afternoon prologue retains a 30 second start intervals for all classes.
Prologue Start Time moved 30 minutes earlier: We will begin the afternoon's race 30 minutes earlier than published previously (check most current schedule).
Sunday's Men's 10k Start moved 30 minutes later: Men get underway at 11:30am on Sunday.
We will post any further updates to the Virtual Team Captain's Page as well as our website. Course maps for both days will be posted Thursday evening.
We're looking forward to hosting the New England ski community this weekend, and appreciate your patience as we work to bring the event into being. Think snow! (Or at least cold, snow-making weather!)
