NEK Farm to Yarn Tour with the Art House

This Sunday, May 20, from 11:30 to 5:00pm, the folks from the Art House on the Common have organized a van tour with the Center to tour three farms and learn how they raise animals for their fiber, how it's processed to create wonderful wool art and clothing. Farm activities include tours, meeting the critters, knitting and spinning demos and more.

The van will depart the Art House at 11:30am, and return to by 5:00pm. Craftsbury house guests are free, but the Art House requests $10/person otherwise. Snacks available at some of the farms along the way, but bring your own lunch. Find out more from the Art House website, or look at the larger

Kudos for Keith

Long-time Craftsbury groomer, race organizer, and staff member Keith Woodward has recently been named part of the 2012 class of the Mount Washington Road Race Hall of Fame. Keith will be inducted in June as part of the 3rd class of the Hall of Fame in recognition of his win, the number of times he's competed (36!!!), and the consistency he's demonstrated throughout the effort. From the press release announcing the feat:

"Keith Woodward, of Stowe, Vermont, won the Mt. Washington Road Race just once, but no one has run this race more often or more consistently. Woodward won in 1983 with a time of 1:06:38, and 28 years later (2011) he set a new age group record for men 60-64, with a time of 1:21:29. Between ...

Two GRP Skiers to '12-13 USBA National Team

Craftsbury Green Racing Project skiers Susan Dunklee and Hannah Dreissigacker have been named to the 2012-13 US Biathlon Team.

Dunklee's inclusion represents a steady climb over the past several winters. USBA offers national-caliber athletes different levels of support depending on results and perceived potential. Since beginning the sport in 2008, Dunklee has made her way from the IBU Cup team, through lower levels of support, to being elevated to a full member of the "A1" team this coming winter after spending much of the winter on the IBU World Cup. Dunklee's 5th at 2012 World Championships in the individual race tied the best Championship result ever by a US woman. She ended her first-ever World Cup season ranked 34th in the total score - a very auspicious start to an international career on the world's ...

New Running Programs for 2012

Have you noticed all the new running programming this summer? While we've been offering running camps since the early Reagan years, 2012 offers what we think is our biggest selection of program options ever, with three entirely new programs and one program that is only a year old to go with our stalwart camp options.

Our first new option is Running & Yoga from June 17-22. Yoga has always played big role in all our camps, but this offering strengthens that connection with daily yoga options. The yoga curriculum for the week will focus on increasing our range of motion, improving balance, rehabilitating injuries and opening tight places. On the track, trails, and roads, we'll cover a broad range of topics from specific workouts, form/technical considerations, broader training principles, strength ...

Trails still Drying Out

One side effect of the early warmth is that much of the Northern Vermont's trails are ahead of schedule in terms of their readiness for hiking, cycling and other warm-weather activities. While the Center's summer trail network is improving, and definitely ahead of where it generally is at this point on the calendar, we ask that you hold off on mountain biking a little longer. Some spots are certainly ready - but we'd prefer to open when the entire network can be utilized.

Thanks for you understanding. It's sure that we'll be open for all trail uses before too much longer!

Mud and Ice Quadrathlon

...or maybe this year, it will be the dust and crust? Whatever you call it, the fabled race is back, resurrected by groomer Keith Woodward. $15 gets you in for 4 miles of running, a 4.5 mile paddle on the Black River, 12 miles on lovely Kingdom dirt roads in mud season, and 7.5k of skiing. DOR registration only, race start at 10am, registration about an hour before hand or so. Equipment dropoff will be as follows:

Canoes should be dropped at the Black River, where it crosses the Post Road.
Bikes should be lined up on Wylie Hill Rd, at the take out of the Black River.

Questions? Drop a line to Keith, and we'll see those of you foolish enough to tackle this adventure on April 1st!

Craftsbury Scullers at NSR-1

Craftsbury SBTC alumni kicked off the 2012 season competing at the National Selection Regatta 1 at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California. While this event was the most important for single scullers, doubles partners Tom and Pete Graves, plus their brother and cousin, lightweight single scullers John Graves and Brian DeRegt used the event as a training race to gauge their fitness as they prepare for upcoming Olympic Trials. The men’s single event featured a deep and strong field of 33 entries. In the time trial Peter Graves led the Craftsbury scullers with an impressive third place finish, only 1.13 seconds behind Warren Anderson’s winning time of 6:40.07. DeRegt also laid down a very fast time and qualified for the semifinals by finishing 5th, only 1.76 seconds out. John and Tom Graves finished ...

Spring Fling & Local Food Loppet Canceled

We’ve decided to cancel both the Spring Fling and the Local Food Loppet, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday of this weekend. Due to the warm weather and the unseasonable forecast we have had to focus all our efforts on a 2.5k loop for the SuperTour - and there is great skiing on this loop and other core trails. However, we feel that both the Loppet and the Spring Fling are not events suited for many short laps on a homologated race course. Additionally, the start/finish areas have suffered given the warmer temps. We will need to wait until just prior to the SuperTour to rebuild the stadium with the reserve snow pile if we hope to have a stadium for those events.

While we can’t offer you organized ski opportunities for this weekend, we hope that you’ll enjoy the excellent skiing on Lemon’s ...

New American Club Record for Craftsbury Camper

Judith Tripp of New York City, a long time Craftsbury runner whose versatility is well known (Judith runs marathons, road miles and competes in triathlon), competed in the mile relay at the venerable Millrose Games track meet in New York City on February 11. Held on the lightning fast Armory track, Judith and her Central Park Track Club teammates ran 6:06 which was good for a new American Club Record. Judith reports, “I raced in my new track spikes which I had spent good time breaking in so they were fast and comfortable. I was a bit worried about what my split would be but I was determined to do my best and it’s surprising what you can do when you really push!”

Update: SuperTour Finals/Distance Nationals Conditions

North American Skiers,

Like most of New England and the country, Craftsbury has seen unseasonably warm temperatures over the last week. Similar weather is forecast for this week, as well as into the extended forecast. We’ve had great skiing to date at Craftsbury, including outlying trails without man-made snow — but we are well aware that most of the natural snow in the area will likely be gone at the end of this week, if the temps come even close to the forecasted highs. So we wanted to give you an update on the steps we are taking to ensure a quality race course for the last week of March.

Throughout Saturday we moved approximately 300 truckloads of snow onto our most defensible course, should we not be able to make use of the planned 3.75k. This loop is the one our staff ...

GRP Weekend Wrap

Susan Dunklee is the real deal.

Last week she posted the top result ever for an American woman in international biathlon compeition with her 5th place in the 15km Individual at Biathlon World Championships in Ruhpolding, Germany. This weekend she followed up by skiing the second leg of a strong relay finish by the American women in 11th. They shot clean using 9 extra rounds and were 4 minutes behind the victorious German squad.

The next day she toed the line as the sole American woman to qualify for the 30 person mass start event, mainly on the basis of her performance in the individual earlier in the week.

And Susan did not disappoint. She mateched the best shooters in the field with only 1 miss over 4 stages to finish in 16th, only 1:30 behind the winner and just 0:30 from 5th place, her high water ...

SUSAN 5TH AT WORLDS!!!

Craftsbury Green Racing Project athlete Susan Dunklee has just posted the best result of her young career (5th!!!) at the IBU World Championships at Ruhpolding, Germany in the 15k Women's Individual. Susan's shooting results have begun to mirror her ski speed, as she only missed one shot all day, in the second prone first standing stage for a one minute penalty. She ended the day 1:18 back to the winner, Tora Berger of Norway, and was only seven seconds from the podium.

Two events remain in the Championships: a relay and the mass start, on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Given this result, Susan has every reason to be excited to see what the coming days hold.

Susan Dunklee moved up almost 20 places in the 10km pursuit to finish 36th at Biathlon World Championships in Ruhpolding, Germany on Sunday.

She had one fewer miss over four shooting stages, a near season best 85% on the range for Dunklee. She led the American squad with her teammate Sara Studebaker, the only other American woman to qualify for the pursuit, in 41st.

CNSC Juniors Top 20 at JWC

Keith and the older PistenBully hard at work last week tilling in man-made snow - on biodiesel!

'Bullies go Bio

We recently starting getting our off-road diesel from Bourne's Energy in Morrisville - a local supplier of bio-diesel mixes. Bourne's gets their bio from White Mountain Biodiesel in North Haverhill, NH. White Mountain only uses waste vegetable oil that they pick up Vermont and New Hampshire as their feedstock, rather than using virgin oils - an important consideration we feel when sourcing bio-fuels.

We're starting with B5 (5% biodiesel, 95% petro diesel), and will be increasing our biodiesel precentage with each successive refill of our 1000 gallon bulk tank. Long-time biodiesel/veggie oil user (and Craftsbury groomer) Lucas Schulz explains:  "Bio gels at higher temperatures than regular diesel, so that's why we're starting off with B5 and slowing ...

CNSC at Biathlon Junior World Championships

For the second year in a room, CNSC boasts two representatives on the US Squad at these Junior World Championships in Kontiolahti, Finland. Ethan Dreissigacker makes his final appearance as a 20 year-old junior while Tara Geraghty-Moats is competing in the youth category.

This week saw their first two competitions, the individual and relay events. Both CNSC skiers started in each event. Ethan, along with most of the field, struggled on the range in tricky shooty conditions. He had 7 misses and settled for 53rd place overall in the 15km event. Tara similarly had 8 misses, but as a relative newcomer to biathlon, has showed considerable improvement on the shooting range. She finished in 44th in the 10km.

In the 4x7.5km junior relay event, Ethan scrambled for the American team. He used 4 extra rounds to clean in two ...

Egan and Reynolds 2nd in Birkie Sprints

On Thursday afternoon Clare Egan and Tim Reynolds did the GRP proud in front of a good crowd along Main Street in Hayward, WI. In the Elite Birkie Sprints, a short 250m out-and-back exhibition event, Reynolds and Egan both advanced to the finals of the men's and women's fields only to be best in the last round of the day.

The event featured a large men's field and a predominantly European one. Reynolds was the only American in the final four of an event that showcased a head to head format that saw the winner advancing to the next round and the loser eliminated. Reynolds was outstretched at the line by an impressively limber Dmitry Ozerski of Russia.

On the women's side, Clare won both of her quarter and semi final heats by solid margins only to fall short to a strong Jennie Bender of CXC in the finals. Video ...

Distance Nationals Date Clarification

A quick, but important clarification about dates for US Long Distance Nationals being held at the Craftsbury Nordic Center. The correct schedule for US Long Distance Nationals at Craftsbury is as follows:

These dates were correctly published on the FIS website and in the USSA Competition Guide. However, we have recently discovered that conflicting dates were published in several other places. We wish we had caught this sooner, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Where Snow is still King

Check out this article from the Albany (NY) Times Union:  "Where Snow is still King". The author of the piece discovered what Craftsbury skiers, houseguests and members have known all this winter - we've consistently been the place for the most snow and terrain in '11-'12.

Despite a lack of cooperation from Mother Nature, we're still making our stand:  96k of trails open this morning and we blew snow all last night until mid-morning. Hopefully we're earning a nice, big storm from Ullr or whomever is in charge of winter these days! Think snow!

Full Weekend Ahead

Regrettably, there's not much snow in much of New England this winter. Wish everyone was skiing in the same conditions we've been fortunate enough to enjoy this winter, but many are not so lucky. Races have been moved all season - and this week is no different. We'll be hosting four races over the next four days:

Thursday, Feb 16 - North Country Twilight sprints, starting around 4pm. Watch tomorrow's stars rip it up tonight on the fields.

Saturday, Feb 18 - Williams College Carnival - enjoy watching some of the fastest college skiers in the country to our trails!

Saturday and Sunday, Feb 18-19 - TD Bank NENSA Eastern Cup Finals. The EC opened here last December, and now we're closing it down too. As we are only acting as host venue, go to NENSA's ...

The first round of the 2012 Ski-Orienteering World Cup just concluded in the Truckee/Lake Tahoe region of California. The series of seven races in right around seven days (January 27 to February 4) also included North American and U.S. National Championships. Many skiers from New England (including Craftsbury skiers Adrian and Kestrel Owens) and national teams from Europe made the trip west. While the Swedes, Norwegians, and Russians dominated the World Cup podium, New England skiers also placed well, taking home improved world rankings and most of the national championship medals.

Craftsbury member Adrian Owens, had his best World Cup race in the sprint placing 27th and simultaneously capturing the top North American spot. His long distance event, and final sprint race were also fast enough to win North ...

In another weekend of racing by Craftsbury representatives all over the world, Ida Sargent took the headline with her 12th place finish in the freestyle sprint in Moscow, Russia.

Ida has been knocking on the door all winter long, and in just her third career appearance in the sprint rounds, she managed to move on from her quarter final heat with a 3rd place finish in one of the day's fastest heats. She was ultimately knocked out in the semi-finals, in a heat that included no fewer than three American women, a first on the World Cup for the USA in another historic day for the women's team. Big Weekend for Craftsbury GRP

With the CNSC representing in five distinct locations this weekend, from as close by as Jackson, NH and as far away as Otepää, Estonia, the Green Racing Project managed to turn in impressive results from literally all over the place.

The big story of the weekend is Susan Dunklee's breakthrough performance in Antholtz, Italy, on the Biathlon World Cup. Susan, in her rookie season on the Tour, has already turned in some impressive results from the get-go in Östersund, Sweden where she finished in the top thirty. But this weekend she showed a new level of her ski speed and shooting accuracy. Susan missed only one shot in the 7.5km sprint, good for 17th place and the top American female finish on the World Cup this season. She was a mere 20 seconds shy of the top ten. With this result, she also qualified ...

Laps, NOT point to point
The Craftsbury Marathon Committee met this morning and decided that we could not safely use the point to point course from Highland Lodge with the existing limited snow cover. We will be running the Marathon on a loop course.

We are especially disappointed that we cannot use this beautiful point to point course after all the work we have done the last two summers. The downhill sections on the Lodge to Center trail do not have enough snow to hold up to the traffic of 500 skiers. Those of you who have skied the point to point course know that this route is worth the effort when it is well covered. We will continue to work with landowners in Greensboro to further improve the trails so they can be safely skied in minimal snow. These type of efforts have paid big ...

Dunklee 17th at Antholz-Anterselva World Cup

It can seem like a basic equation:  take the ski speed the GRP's Susan Dunklee has shown all season, add hot shooting with only one miss = the GRP biathlete's first World Cup top 20. But when you factor in Dunklee was still recovering from a cold after having missed some races, the learning curve that accompanies competiting in your rookie season on the World Cup - to say nothing of the quality of competition, vagueries of ski prep, and much more - Susan's 17th place in Thursday's 7.5k sprint in Antholz-Anterselva is more elegant calculus than simple arithmetic.

Not only was it a personal best for Susan, not only was it the best finish by an American woman this season on the Biathlon World Cup, but with this placing she punched her ticket for Sunday's mass start, an exclusive affair for only 30 competitors ...

Titcomb Mountain Eastern Cup
Only 5 days after the concluding races at US Nationals in Rumford, ME, the Green Racing Project was back in action again this weekend. With Ida and Susan back in Europe, Hannah racing at biathlon NorAms in Jericho, VT, the rest of the GRP headed back to western Maine for the second weekend of the TD Bank Eastern Cup at Titcomb Mountain in Farmington.

With scant snow at Saturday's orginal venue in Augusta, both the sprint and distance events slated for the weekend went off on a short man-made loop at the base of the alpine area at Titcomb. Saturday featured a short, roller-derby-esque sprint course that had most of the men and many women opting for skate skis to double both the classic sprint qualifier and all the rounds. Brett Ely at Marathon Trials

Craftsbury coach Brett Ely toed the line in Houston for the Olympic Marathon Trials on January 14th. A slew of Craftsbury runners were on hand to cheer for Brett and wish her well before the race. With 8 weeks of  preparation under her belt since the Pan Am Games, Brett was feeling ready to race well having made the best preparation she could. Under sunny skies and in crisp temperatures, Ely was looking smooth and fluid until the mid-stages of the race. Unfortunately, her recurring hip injury made itself known and she was forced to drop out. She said, “The hip issue was still present but I’m doing ok. It’s time now to finally get things fixed without the deadline of future races.”

We've been getting some questions about the plans for the 2012 marathon. Given we're a bit over two weeks out, now seems like a good time to address the discussions and plans.

Marathon is ON!
While we cannot guarantee what course we will be using for this year, we can say that we will have a marathon on the 28th thanks to our snowmaking system. Our intention remains to run on the point to point course from Greensboro to the Center, ending on the Common for the 50k. Having said that, we must allow that if the Marathon were being held today, we'd be running some variety of lap course on the Center premises (though the fresh snow is beginning to pile up nicely!). Richard Priest, Achilles Guide at NYC Marathon

Richard Priest, a soon to be 7-year veteran of Craftsbury running camps, tried something a bit different in November’s New York City marathon:  he ran as an Achilles International guide. Achilles International provides able-bodied athlete volunteers and pairs them with disabled runners. Richard and his fellow Achilles guide, Janine Schweiger, were paired with Nkele Mosiane from South Africa. Nkele is a 45-year old above the knee amputee (one leg) who had walked the NYC marathon twice before. This year she was taking a go at it on a handcycle. Richard was accepted as a guide a month before the marathon and he met Nkele two days before the race at an Achilles International event.

Wrapping up Nationals, Looking ahead

The week of racing at Nationals concluded with two classic races:  a 20/30k mass start and a classic sprint.

Ida had her best result of the week in the mass start. After trading leads throughout the race, Ida Sargent ended the day second to her USST teammate, CXC's Jessie Diggins, at a gap of 11.6 seconds. It was Diggins' third championship of this edition of Nationals, and extended her unbeaten 2011-12 North American winning streak to around a dozen.

The rest of the GRP women were solid as well:
Hannah Dreissigacker - 14th
Clare Egan - 17th
Maria Stuber - 22nd

Pat O'Brien led the GRP men home in their 30k several hours later, ending eighth in a pack of three with CXC's Brian Gregg and his GRP teammate Bryan Cook right behind him in 9th. It was GRP rookie Cook's second ...

Saturday High School Race

Just a heads up for day skiers planning on enjoying Craftsbury this weekend:  we are acting as an alternate venue for a U-32 high school race from noon to 2:00pm on Saturday the 7th. This is a great opportunity to watch some of the young talent from Vermont high schools duke it out on a spectator friendly course.

Not interested in spectating? If you are a confident skier, it may also be a perfect time to explore some of our more adventurous ski opportunities we have available. Another option suitable to all skiers would be the trail around Big Hosmer Pond, since our main snowmaking loop will be in full use by the racers. (Big Hosmer will require a short walk to access the trail). Thanks for your understanding and flexibility. Lemon's Haunt and the soccer fields should be available for all users by 2:00pm.

New Year's 2012 Racing Roundup

Beyond the great competition going on here at the Center this past weekend with the Classic, there were other results to note (even if a bit belatedly).

Last week, Craftsbury biathletes Ethan Dreissigacker and Tara Geraghty-Moats headed off to the great white north of Alaska for US Junior Biathlon Trials in Anchorage - and made the end of 2011 a very successful one!

The racing opened on Wednesday, the 28th with a 7.5/10k spring competition. Ethan kicked things off in fine style, missing only one shot en route to a 1:17 win. Tara took a more dramatic path to a clear and decisive win, missing half of the day's targets, but still winning by 1:03 on the strength of her ski speed. In fact, when looking at the ...

High School XC Ski Training at Craftsbury

Did you know that Vermont High School teams training together with their coach Craftsbury ski for free? Yup, you and your whole team can come and train on our trail system gratis.

What's the catch? No catch, but we do ask one really important favor:  please give the Touring Center a call in advance of your arrival. Understandly, this program is quite popular (all the more so given the limited skiing available throughout New England this winter). This popularity combined with our presently limited terrain can make for especially full trails.

However, with a quick phone call to the Touring Center, we can help ensure that you and your team have the room you need to train effectively. Reach the Touring Center at 802-586-7767, ext. 32, seven days a week. Thanks! and see you on the trails!

WPI Christmas Cross-training Visit

It was great to have group from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) join us prior to Christmas. In addition to lots of ski instruction and time on snow, the group spent much time at work in the fitness room. As many college groups do, they ended their stay with a competitive time trial around our manmade race loop.

Craftsbury Sculling Intern and WPI oarsman Ricky Holak grabbed the honors at this, the first WPI Invitational, with a time of 13:08 - a comfortable 30 second margin over second place. Not bad for a sculler who'd never skied before! It was great to host the group, and hope they enjoyed it as much as we did.

Ida racing the classic in Rogla.

GRP Abroad: Sargent Top 30 in Rogla

While the majority of the GRP squad was racing on home turf at the Eastern Cup Openers in Craftsbury, three GRP women were representing the team and the USA and abroad.

Headlining last weekend's results was a breakthrough performance by Ida Sargent, who wrapped up a two month tour in Europe in a stint with US Ski Team. After on a strong 38th place finish in the 10km classic event, Ida sneaked into the rounds in the 1.2km skate sprint in Rogla, Slovenia on Sunday where she ultimately finished 5th in her quarterfinal for a 25th place. Congratulations to Ida for scoring the first World Cup points of her career!

In Hochfilzen Austria, Susan contested the 3rd weekend of Biathlon World Cup action. In the 7.5km sprint, Dunklee struggled on the range with 7 misses, finishing in 72nd place and missing the cut for the ...

CNSC Shines at EC Opener

The TD Bank Eastern Cup Series began in a big way at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center last weekend.

A beautiful, wintry weekend played host to New England's season opening races. The Outdoor Center's investment in snow making this summer paid off with a 1.5km loop approximately a foot deep, the only snow that survived last week's rain storms at the COC, and some of the only skiing to be had in New England.

This loop saw a lot of traffic this weekend. Saturday's events included both a sprint qualifier in the morning followed by a classic prologue in the afternoon (1 and 2 laps, respectively). Sunday's race was 3 laps of skating for the women, and 6 for the men. With over 400 competitors on each day, that's over 7,000 racer laps on the loop, not including warm up and testing!

Day 2, Eastern Cup Openers Results

Day 2 opened clear and cold, with over 400 racers competing on the 1.5k loop. The cold was welcome however, as it allowed our snowmaking team to make two additional mounds of fresh snow to augment the existing coverage.

Sophie Caldwell picked up right where she left off on Saturday, posting an 11 second win over Craftsbury Green Racing Project's own Maria Stuber who herself bested UNH's Elizabeth Guiney by 4 seconds.

After Saturday's double duplicate podium, the men's field was ready to shake up the results - and change it did, as none of Saturday's top three appeared on Sunday's podium. The GRP's Bryan Cook led a Craftsbury podium sweep, with teammates Dylan McGuffin and Nils Koons completing the all green victory party.

Day 1 of the TD Bank Eastern Cup Openers is in the books. We hosted over 300 racers today, on our 1.5k loop. We even got a bit of snow this morning to make things look more wintry (and make coach lives harder!).

The day started especially well for Corey Stock of CSU who posted a 6.5s win (in one k!) over the Green Racing Project's Clare Egan, with Dartmouth's Sophie Caldwell. Egan and Caldwell repeated their podium in the afternoon's prologue, with Sophie taking the win over another Green Racing Project skier - Maria Stuber. Egan claimed the last step of the podium for a fine start to the NENSA EC season.

The men's podium was a perfect duplicate between the two races:  Craftsbury's GRP skier Tim Reynolds on the top step, teammate Patrick O'Brien close at hand in second, UVM skier Alex Howe in third both ...

Dec. 15 Trail Closure

While we expect our man-made base to hold up through the drizzle, we will be closing the 1.5k race course/training loop after 12pm today in order to maintain the track's integrity. Conditions permitting, we will re-open for racer course preview tomorrow. Over the weekend, we will be closing the course to the general public due to the weekend's Eastern Cup competition. Eastern Cup participants will be the only skiers allowed on course all day Saturday and Sunday until 3pm, when the course will again be available to the broader ski community.

EC Openers: Wednesday Status

At this point in time, we are relying almost exclusively on manmade snow for our open terrain. The snowmaking plan is presently focused on creating one quality race loop. This loop currently sports a foot of snow depth for around a kilometer. We hope to extend it to its full race course length this afternoon - just under 1.5k.

We intend to race both of Saturday's events on one course of the same distance, for both men and women's classes (approx. 1.4k for the morning's sprint qualifier and ~3k for afternoon prologue). This decision mandates the following changes:

Start Order:  Having all classes racing the same distance will enable J2 girls and boys to be seeded in with the open women and men, and therefore able to earn NRL and FIS points if they are appropriately licensed. This ...

GRP in Davos and Hochfilzen

Our Green Racing Project contingent abroad saw more World Cup action this weekend in Davos, SUI and Hochfilzen, AUT respectively for Cross Country and Biathlon.

Susan led the USBA as the top American woman in both the 7.5km sprint competition and the 10km pursuit. Dunklee had a miss each in prone and standing in the sprint, good for a 37th place finish and just shy of her 28th place high mark on the WC from the week before in Sweden. She was a bit shakier on the range in the next day's pursuit with 3+3 misses in her prone shootings, but she pulled it back together with only one miss in her final 2 standing stages to level off in 43rd, again leading the American women.

While the US women were lapped in Sunday's relay and did not receive a time or place, Susan again skied a strong second leg with no ...

Race Volunteer Opportunities

We're hosting an ambitious number of races this winter (see below), and that is only possible thanks to our wonderful, dedicated volunteers. Whether you volunteer for one race, for the Marathon, or commit to helping on an ongoing basis, volunteering is a great way to meet other community members, develop new skills (or share your existing talents), get as close as possible to the action, cheer on friends and family, enjoy and promote the outdoors, support your local communities and businesses, and showcase your home ski center to the Nordic ski world.

Beyond the warm altruistic feeling, we offer volunteers small tokens of our appreciation - including great fundraising opportunities for groups, donations to non-profits in the single volunteers' names, and more! You can find general information on volunteering

GRP on the World Cup

The Green Racing Project's Ida Sargent and Susan Dunklee are currently representing the United States on the World Cup in Scandinavia.

Ida, in her inaugural year with the US Ski Team, raced to a season best 37th place in the 10km classic stage of the 3 day 'Ruka Triple' stage race in Kuusamo, Finland last weekend. This result nearly matched her career best 33rd in the classic sprint at the same venue last year. Sargent finished 38th overall in the event, fourth among Americans in one of their strongest international showings ever as a group with Kikkan Randall, Holly Brooks, and Liz Stephen finishing 6th, 23rd, and 35th respectively.

Sargent will continue her European tour with the National Team in Dusseldorf, Germnay for two sprint events next weekend.

Highland Lodge X-C Ski Trails Remain Open

Thanks to collaborative efforts between an enthusiastic group of Greensboro residents and the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, the x-c ski and snowshoe trails of the Highland Lodge will remain open to skiers and snowshoers despite the closing of the Lodge.

On October 10, the long-time owners of the Lodge made the tough decision to close their doors and sell the Lodge.
